Is There Really A Secret To Success?
If there was just one, infallible secret to success, everyone would probably
know it by now. Yet we still use this phrase every day, still asking others
what the special formula is for achieving your dreams. Well, I can't tell you
the secret for sure, but I will tell you some obvious steps toward success:
Gratitude
Yup. One of the best ways to feel like a winner is just to feel like you've
already won. Think of all your blessings, thank all the people who've helped
you in your life, and turn around and give back. Usually, failure is only a
result of realizing only what you don't have. Why focus on that when you can
make the most of what you do have?
Consistency
Sure, maybe back in school you managed to cram for a test the night before and
received a great grade. But life isn't school, and there is more at stake than
just your personal performance. To be successful in the long run, you must cultivate
the habits of a successful person. Not all hard work will have immediate results –
actually, most won't – so you have to be patient and keep hustling. You'll see the
fruits of your labor soon enough.
Work With Each Other, Not Against Each Other
As competitive as your industry is sometimes, you can also find people who can
support you, rather than want to one-up you. The trick is not to try to be better
than each other, but to help each other become better. Share ideas. Ask for
constructive feedback. Support each other's events. Network with likeminded people
and get a broader perspective on your industry. You don't have to do it alone and
in fact, you'll probably be a lot better off if you don't.
Perseverance
Failure is not optional, it is necessary. It is part of life. So are all hardships.
Take comfort in knowing that no one is without some sort of struggle, and it can only
help us grow stronger and wiser. What measures your success isn't failure, it’s how
you can respond to conflict. As long as you can keep picking yourself up, you'll still
be able to achieve your goal. Keep going.
Don't Listen To The Naysayers
If you keep allowing other's opinions dictate how you build your career, than is your
success really yours? You're the only one who understands your potential. And you may
not even have seen how much potential you have. Only you can create that and prove
what you can do. It is very easy for people to think you can't do something after failing
at the first attempt. Ignore these people and continue on your way.
Believe In Yourself
If you didn't already know you were supposed to do this, that was the problem.
What the root of this problem is, many don't understand why they don't believe in
themselves. Is it low self-esteem? Bad habits turned low value system? Dig deep and
figure out what is holding yourself back from, well, yourself. No, this isn't some
cushy self-help exercise. It is vital to believe in yourself. If you don't, why do
you want to do this in the first place? Go ahead, feel more confident.
