Interview With CEO Crossroads Staffing

Interview With Jodi Davis

How did you get into staffing and human resources?
I recruited for a few years and enjoyed both the interaction with clients and the feeling of landing that perfect job for the candidates.

What makes the industry important?
Business has watched the staffing industry for many years for economic forecasts and projections. We have truly become an economic indicator as we are the first to know when companies are hiring and the first to know when companies are starting layoffs. As an industry we help companies bridge many business related obstacles. When they get a new contract that needs fast response we have the ability to staff them up quickly; when a contract doesn’t come through or the project is complete we rightsize them overnight. HR departments that used to have four person departments are now a department of one. They do not have time to interview hundreds of candidates for each position. Strong recruitment companies have multi-layer networks and bright staff that spring into action at a moments notice - we know where to go quickly to find that perfect person!

Who inspires you?
My dad. He is tireless and has a work ethic that I have always admired!

How did Crossroads get its name?
I was browsing an iTunes library for inspiration with my business partner and we came across Eric Clapton’s Crossroads album. The legendary story of Robert Johnson “at the crossroads” tied to our Job Takers and Job Makers being at a Crossroads while looking for one another created the perfect spark for our new name.

What were the most important things in mind when creating Crossroads?
We work with people. Both candidates and clients alike - people are our business. Making our processes easy, friendly and fun. We are a smart company. We hire smart people that like to have fun … helping people all day long is just one of the benefits of the job!

What three words best describe Crossroads? Why?
Integrity... Inspire... Fun...
Crossroads is build on the integrity of our word. We work in teams inspiring each other to be the best version of ourselves - to always be the best we can be. And always always have fun. We promote a fun work environment where people want to come to work. And in each and every candidate interview we watch for what makes each person “spark”. It is that spark that makes us enjoy what we do and makes us good at what we do - everyone has something that makes them spark. If we can find that spark we know exactly where to place them so they will be happy and successful.

How is Crossroads different from other staffing companies? What makes it great?!
Our ability to not only accept change but embrace it. We are big enough to compete with any other staffing company and small enough to alter our internal structures to be competitive.

How can the staffing industry improve?
1. We must alter how legislators have historically viewed staffing companies. Many feel that we are entities that don’t provide benefits, don’t allow for sick time, don’t provide steady employment etc… Instead of viewing us as contributing heavily to raising the national employment average, providing opportunities for steady employment if the employee works hard and smart enough and assisting small to medium sized businesses with the ever changing and growing legislative requirements.

2. A balanced Work Comp reform must happen in order to achieve a strong and healthy job placement market. This is vital as many small businesses buckle under the weight of both comp administration and abuse. It is my hope that the US will continue moving in more of a European direction with regards to comp. With socialized medicine throughout Europe employers pay a basic compulsory “comp” insurance of a few $100 per year no matter how many employees they have. The reason for this is obvious, employees simply go to the Dr. using their own insurance for their health issues.

Advice for aspiring professionals?
The world is ever changing and opportunities present themselves to those who are paying attention and are prepared. Be open minded and resilient with your work ethic and you will do just fine.
